PLANS FOR 2024
WELL HELLO SINNERS! Hope everyone is well and have been having a wonderful holiday season!!
I know, I know it’s been awhile since our last reach out but hey, look at the calendar! With Halloween, Thanksgiving and now Christmas/Hanukkah in full swing things on this front have slowed down for us as far as putting in full focus on SOSE.
To be honest though, JohnAlex and I have been focusing a lot more these days on our podcast “Hey Pal What’s New?” the last two months working on updating the studio, putting together content for our Patreon which had a “soft launch” this month and working on spreading the word about the pod, which we have noticed a nice increase in downloads/subscribers from our efforts monthly, which is nice to see.
Two weeks ago we celebrated our 100th episode(!) and we plan on really increasing our efforts to make this not only just a ‘labor of love” but also something that can be sustainable through our fans to keep the pirate ship afloat.
With that being said, what to do here with you guys……
Our plan for 2024 is to do what we intended and put on quarterly showcases of our talent roster locally (ideally Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter) at venues that will have us. I’ve been seeing shows at places like Sugar Hollow Tap Room, Cellar on Treadwell, etc. where some of you have played gigs at. that seemed cool. We intend on “picking your brains” to see if you might be able to help us with some guidance on how to make shows at these places happen.
We are also planning in 2024 to start attending vertical markets such as toy fairs, expos, etc. getting a table and promoting our stuff at these places to get the word out. Tolly at Garden State Picker has been a HUGE help for us with helping us grow podcast wise and is helping us get into these events since he himself, does these shows and it’s a great way to get out there to the “cool nerd culture” who dig cool stuff.
Sack of Sin for us, has not only been an avenue for promoting our content, it is also a way for us to showcase local talent of ALL types whether it’s bands, podcasts, artists, content creators, jugglers, sword swallowers, WHATEVER ALL IN ONE PLACE and create a BRAND where artists help each other.
However…..what we’ve learned this year since we launched, is that we are NOT a “sit back and let us do all of the work for you while you reap the benefits” organization. Let’s call a spade a spade.
JohnAlex and I (much like I’m sure you are all doing on your own) have invested money, time, effort into getting our brand out there this year through all of our avenues and I’m not going to call out certain artists on the roster (you know who you are) but with the exception of a few, I’m seeing artists on the roster who have played countless gigs this year and I’m thinking to myself “hmmm I didn’t know about these how come they didn’t share on the Facebook group or let us know so we can post on the page?”
Guys, we WANT TO PROMOTE THESE THINGS for you, whether we are involved or not if we don’t know, how could we? You ALL have access to share in the group, why wouldn’t you do so? See, the way Social Media works kids, is if you share with us, we share with our audience and hopefully, they share too and it grows organically.
I’ll be honest, I used to but if I see something being promoted by an artist on the roster, I’m going to like it I’m sure you have seen me do so but if you don’t let us know directly by either sharing on the group page or contact me directly. Why would I?
Anyway, enough of my rambling, here’s the plan for 2024:
1) JohnAlex and I will be going through the roster on the page the next few weeks and if we have seen no activity from an artist with us on the page, directly through us, etc. we will be removing your page and the roster. No hard feelings, you’ll get a nice email from us wishing you well we would rather have a small group of actives promoting and helping grow the brand than a roster of 100 with 10 being active. Some bands have contacted us directly with their deal, you might be “on hiatus” inactive at the moment and that’s ok, you’re good, just let us know if you haven’t already.
2) We will be looking for new artists who want to be involved for 2024 through ad promotion, however, I would like to add “A&R reps” meaning an active point of contact from bands currently on the roster who are interested in getting more involved with us with finding new talent, pointing us in a direction of venues, etc. If you would like to be that person, please let us know directly so we can have more frequent contact with you and you alone and I can send you more details. Trust me, it will be worth it for you ;)
3) Showcases with us in 2024, as much as this pains me to say this being an artists myself whether it’s trough a
”proper venue” or venue we rent on our own WILL REQUIRE TICKETS TO BE SOLD PRE-SHOW.
Now what that means is the amount you sell will determine where you are in the lineup. You sell one? Guess what you’re first on the bill. You sell the most? You’re the headliner! Simple as that. You WILL NOT have a minimum you have to sell and there will be a 30/20/50 split of revenue on every ticket sold regardless of amount.
No “hey, my kid has Karate, can we play first?” or “can we play last? I have to work at Stop and Shop till blahblah” I know we all have lives outside of this, but no exceptions. You want to play later? Sell those tickets buster you want to play first? Then I guess don’t sell a lot, but trust me, you probably won’t be on our minds for future events.
So if a show has say a $10 pricetag? $3 goes to ARTIST, $2 goes to SOSE, $5 goes to VENUE. Sound fair? 100% of your merch is yours of course (we aint Live Nation), you will be provided an area to sell. and our merch people can sell for you if you want. Just make sure you print that swag and have a count so you can settle up.
ANY VENUES YOU WANT US TO PERSUE, PLEASE LET US KNOW.
That’s it for now. I will be sending this link to the roster and if there are any questions, comments, feedback at all please contact me directly. Since it is the holidays, we are giving you till JANUARY 12TH 2024 to reply on whether you are in this year or not. If I don’t hear back? Expect that email…..
much love!
Gregry and JohnAlex
